Brightmile Product Updates - Driver Rewards App

A lot has happened since March 2019 when I wrote a post for this blog on the power of gamification and driver rewards in the fight against unsafe driving. What has not changed is the focus on the “carrot” over the “stick” that has been at the core of Brightmile’s DNA since Day 1 of the business. 

Since writing that post, we have been lucky to work directly with some fantastic stakeholders at some of the world’s leading companies, learning from the data and incorporating feedback to enhance and iterate our driver engagement and gamification capabilities. 

A major landmark for us was the release of our refreshed Driver App in September 2023. We are proud to now offer a BrightRewards platform that is modeled on the leading personal fitness applications and taps into a range of human motivators including financial prizes, competition with colleagues (both team and individual), charitable donations, and self-improvement.

The results have been great, and we have even seen optional programs where, through dialing up and promoting BrightRewards, we have achieved reductions in collision frequency, as measured by our clients, of over 75%.

Geotab integration

Until now, Brightmile has operated as a standalone end-to-end enterprise app-based telematics solution, using smartphone sensors to auto-detect driving trips, understand driver behaviour, and engage both drivers and company managers to reduce collision rates, fuel and other operational costs, and CO2 emissions. 

Our standalone solution typically fits best for drivers of cars, 2-wheelers and grey fleet vehicles, where the more traditional fleet management functionality of hardware based telematics systems is not required.

We are now excited to announce the formal launch of our Brightmile Driver Rewards App. This means that any Geotab driver anywhere in the world can be seamlessly rewarded for safer driving via Brightmile, creating a best-of-breed of Geotab’s market leading fleet management platform with Brightmile’s global best-in-class BrightRewards program.

The combination is especially powerful for drivers of heavy trucks and light commercial vehicles, where mileages are high, and the cost to businesses of both collisions and fuel can be huge.

How does it work?

Brightmile integrates seamlessly with the driving data already collected by Geotab. No additional sensitive data is collected - so there are no additional privacy concerns.

The Brightmile Driver Rewards App is designed to:

• Clearly display Geotab Safety scores

• Allow drivers to understand their driving performance against targets and over time

• Foster healthy competition between colleagues

• Give drivers tangible and meaningful rewards for safe & sustainable driving

BrightRewards allows drivers to earn our rewards currency, the BrightCoin, for good driving by hitting their behavioural targets on a weekly basis. BrightCoins can be exchanged for tangible rewards and/or charity donations. Clients can also contribute their own additional prizes in the form of merchandise stores and/or special challenges and raffles.

We also offer optional in-app driver leaderboards which, if enabled, allow drivers to compete with their peers to earn bragging rights and bonus BrightCoins. Leaderboards can be configured at a group and/or individual level.

The BrightCoach e-learning platform, as well as digital vehicle checks and incident reporting, are also available as optional product modules in our Geotab App.

All of our Geotab BrightRewards programs are coordinated by one of Brightmile’s Customer Success Managers, which means that there is little to no incremental administrative burden for our clients.
